OM yoga teacher training: Joining Heaven and Earth
200 hour program taught in two sessions:
6-15 September, 2009 taught by Cyndi Lee
8-17 March 2010 taught by Cyndi Lee
Requirements:
* Two years of committed yoga practice
* Ability to do sirsasana away from the wall, adho mukha vrksasana and pinca mayurasana at or away from the wall, and urdhva danurasana with straight arms.
2009 Course Syllabus
1. What is OM?:
Establishing the class mandala, clarifying motivation, discovering the layers of an OM yoga practice as a student and a teacher, Svadyaya, learning to teach 3 variations of Surya Namaskar
2. Transitions:
Learning sequencing, Creating Thematic content, Learning to teach Standing Poses and Standing Balances
3. Yoga Body Buddha Mind:
Instruction and Practice of Mindfulness Meditation, Cultivating Lovingkindness meditation, Learning to integration mindfulness and compassion into the practice of teaching OM yoga
4. Openings and Closings:
Movement relationship to inhaling and exhaling, Hip Openers, Backbends and Twists, Forward Bends
This session will also include a lot of opportunities for students to practice hands-on adjustments and teaching each other, working in groups to understand alignment. Each day will include an asana class, homework assignments, study group discussions and class observations.
Daily Schedule:
9-10:40 asana class
11-12:30 teacher training
12:30-2:30 lunch -- there will be homework and study group discussions during this time
2:30-5 teacher training
There will be reading, writing, meditation, study group or observation homework assignments every night.

The students will also have a commitment to doing one home practice a week, two 30-minute meditation practices a week and keeping a yoga practice journal.

2010 Course Syllabus:
1.Turning Upside Down:
Inversions - Adho Mukha Svanasana, Pinca Mayurasana, Sirsasana, Sarvangasana and preparations
2.Yoga Sutra:
Group sutra presentations, weaving of philosophy and dharma into an asana class through words and action
3.Restoring the Subtle Body:
Seated forward bends, Savasana, Restorative Yoga, Savasana
4. Pranayama:
Understanding movement relationship to inhaling and exhaling, kapalabhati, viloma, cultivating breath awareness
5.Teaching Beginners:
Use of props, Creating Building Blocks
6. Joining Heaven and Earth:
Intensive practice of hands-on adjustments, final written exam, group teaching exam, What ifs?, clarifying your vision as a yoga teacher, Dedicating our Practice.
At the end of this session, everyone will be ready to teach OM style vinyasa yoga!
